Award for a Young Researcher from Leoben

Magdalena Kirchmair from the Chair of Functional Materials and Materials Systems was awarded the Michel Cantarel Student Grant at the ICTF Conference, which took place in Biarritz from 8 to 12 June. Presented by the Société Française du Vide (SFV), the award recognizes outstanding scientific contributions by early-career researchers.

In her oral presentation entitled “In-situ Characterization of the Hydrogen Permeation Barrier Performance of MoNbTaWZr High-Entropy Alloy Coatings,” Magdalena Kirchmair presented her latest research findings on the barrier performance of metallic and nitride MoNbTaWZr coatings. These coatings are designed to prevent hydrogen from penetrating steel and thereby mitigate hydrogen embrittlement. The findings make an important contribution to the development of resistant materials and coating systems for future applications in hydrogen technology.
