Marshall Plan award to explore “cold sintering” of ceramics at the Penn State

Abdullah Jabr has been awarded a Marschall Plan stipend to perform research at the Pennsylvania State University (PSU), as part of his doctoral degree. Abdullah studied Materials Science in Leoben before entering our doctoral program. In his PhD Thesis he is exploring new sintering routes for ceramic materials, so-called “Cold Sintering”, to consolidate parts below 300°C. During his 4 month stay at PSU he will learn from first hand this ultra-low temperature sintering process under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Clive Randall. The goal of Abdullah’s dissertation is to explore the influence of consolidation mechanisms during sintering on the mechanical performance of “cold sintered” ceramic parts. We wish Abdullah all success at Penn State!

The Marshall Plan stipend is intended to encourage research from our undergraduate and graduate students at US universities and strengthen collaboration with other Materials Science Departments.
