Modernization of Metallography at ESI

As part of ongoing infrastructure development, the existing metallography facilities at ESI underwent extensive renovation and modernization. The goal of this project was to optimize existing workflows, improve the quality of analyses, and establish the technical foundation for future research projects. A key component of the renovation was the redesign of the laboratory areas. Workstations for sample preparation, grinding and polishing procedures, and microscopic analysis were reorganized to be both ergonomic and functional. Particular attention was paid to workplace safety and the efficient use of the available laboratory space. The expansion of storage space in the metallography lab also facilitates collaboration, as tools and equipment can now be stored and kept in a single room, thereby improving efficiency and enabling faster workflows. The new infrastructure also enables more flexible processing of various materials and research questions. As a result, the renovation represents an important contribution to securing the institute’s long-term research and development capabilities.
