New Assistant Professor for "Synthesis and Characterization of Materials and Systems in Microelectronics"

As of October 1, 2021, Barbara Putz has taken up the new assistant professorship for synthesis and characterization of materials and systems in microelectronics at the Department of Materials Science.

Born and raised in the region, she obtained her degree in Materials Science from the University of Leoben. Her dissertation at the Erich Schmid Institute dealt with metal-polymer composites, which are used, for example, in microelectronic components and in the field of space travel. This collaboration with the European Space Agency ESA involved several months of research stay at the European Space Research and Technology Centre ESTEC in the Netherlands.

For her work, Barbara Putz received the Award of Excellence, the Austrian state prize for the best dissertations, among other honours. In 2018, she was awarded a L'Oréal Austria Fellowship for Women in Science from the Austrian Academy of Sciences. Since, Mrs. Putz has spent two and a half years as a Post Doc and Marie Curie Fellow at the renowned Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology Empa in Thun, Switzerland, conducting research on the fabrication and characterization of flexible thin films with complex interfaces and microstructures. I am pleased to welcome Ass. Professor Putz back to our house and wish her all the best and much success for her future tasks!
